Consolidate + Protect is a water-based treatment for Maltese limestone. It binds powdering stone back together and keeps rain out of the surface. The wall still breathes. Low odour, and no solvents.

01 — The problem
How limestone decays.
Decay begins as dust on the windowsill. The surface softens enough to mark with a thumbnail. Winter rain then takes off a layer at a time, and carved detail goes first.
Sealers are the common answer. A sealer forms a film over the face of the stone. Water cannot get in, and moisture already in the wall cannot get out. Salts crystallise behind the film and the surface lifts away in sheets.
The wall didn't need sealing. It needed holding together.

Consolidates.
The treatment soaks 12–18 mm into the stone and binds loose grains back to sound material underneath. Surface strength increases by 180%.
Protects.
The treated face sheds water. The stone takes in 87% less.
Breathes.
The wall still breathes. Moisture inside it leaves through the face as before.

Not a sealer.
No film. Nothing sits on the surface to peel or trap moisture behind it.
Not a damp treatment.
It will not stop rising damp and is not a substitute for addressing the source. The surface must be dry and free of rising damp before treatment.
Not silane or siloxane based.
Water-carried, 15% active solids, no solvent.

Powdering
Powder on windowsills and grit at the foot of the wall is stone leaving the façade. Once the surface is bound, it stops.
Flaking
Sheets stop lifting after a hard winter. Carved edges hold.
Rain
Water runs down the face instead of soaking in.
Odour
Water-based, no solvents, under 30 g/L VOC. Low odour.
Appearance
No shine and no surface film. Tested to EN 1062-11 for accelerated UV ageing with no peeling, flaking or cracking.
Application
No primer or topcoat. Two coats, applied between +10 °C and +20 °C, out of strong wind, rain and direct sun. The surface is kept free of rain for 72 hours afterwards. Tools clean with water.
